Everyone’s favorite family of superheroes is back in “Incredibles 2” – but this time Helen (voice of Holly Hunter) is in the spotlight, leaving Bob (voice of Craig T. Nelson) at home with Violet (voice of Sarah Vowell) and Dash (voice of Huck Milner) to navigate the day-to-day heroics of “normal” life. It’s a tough transition for everyone, made tougher by the fact that the family is still unaware of baby Jack-Jack’s emerging superpowers. When a new villain hatches a brilliant and dangerous plot, the family and Frozone (voice of Samuel L. Jackson) must find a way to work together again—which is easier said than done, even when they’re all Incredible.
In Incredibles 2, characters like Elastigirl undergo extreme stretches and contortions, placing unique demands on clothing simulation. Pixar introduced 3D UV-Scaling, a materials innovation that allows fabrics to adapt dynamically to the character’s movements. This technique ensures that textures and patterns stretch naturally without distortion, maintaining realism and visual continuity even during exaggerated poses, and giving Elastigirl’s wardrobe the flexibility needed for her action-packed sequences.
3D UV-Scaling manipulates the UV coordinates of clothing to preserve fabric details when stretched or compressed. In Incredibles 2, this allowed Elastigirl’s costumes to retain texture fidelity and pattern accuracy even during extreme movements. By dynamically adjusting how textures map onto the fabric, the system maintained realism and visual continuity, ensuring that every stretch, bend, or twist of her wardrobe looked natural and consistent on screen.
