Set during their formidable college years, Monsters University sees much younger versions of Mike and Sulley. Mike Wazowski dreams of becoming a top Scarer and enrolls at Monsters University, where he meets the naturally talented but arrogant Sulley for the first time. Their rivalry gets them kicked out of the Scaring Program. Forced to work together in the Scare Games with an unsuitable team, they learn the value of teamwork and determination. Though they don't win as expected, Mike and Sulley prove themselves, form a lasting friendship, and begin their path toward becoming a legendary duo.
It was a new lighting system, to focus on the artistic, rather than the engineering, side of lighting, like creating new "scare lights" for scary monster scenes. By using it, artists could experiment with mood, color, and atmosphere without getting bogged down in complex calculations. This made the world of monsters feel vibrant, dynamic, and truly cinematic.
It models the natural distribution of light in a scene, all based on real-world physics. Global Illumination calculates how light bounces off surfaces, reflects, and diffuses, capturing subtle interactions between objects. By simulating these physical properties, animators can create complex lighting scenarios that would be difficult or impossible to achieve manually.
